Book Nook: Encouraging Reluctant Writers

Fun journal to help make writing meaningful and fun

By Traci Allen September 23, 2018

A kids’ journal quite unlike any other, this beautifully illustrated book invites children to record a year of their life by filling in the 365 quirky drawing and writing activities—one for every day of the year. Activities are fun, quick—so no excuse to miss any days!—and imaginatively offbeat, so journalers might be invited to “Draw a scene that happened today, but give the people animal heads” or “Write down every feeling you remember feeling today” or simply just “Sum up today in a single word.”  At the end of the 365 days, children will end up with an amusing, creative, and offbeat record of a year in their life to treasure in years to come.  Target ages are 9-13 years but could be done with help for younger children as well.

Fun Keepsake Book

This book is such a fun idea, especially for the new year, that guides him to write or draw something everyday.  I can't wait to pull this out years later and show off what he did!

wonderful!!

This is such a wonderful book!! My 6 year old is having the best time filling it in!! Some of the daily tasks are funny and some more serious but they really keep her mind working and it is great "story telling" practice for her! It is a mush have!!

Fun and different

I bought this for my 8 year old nephew. He loves writing and drawing. This is perfect for him. Each day you do something that describes yourself- list 5 things you did that start with the letter p, give today a title, draw what you would look like if you were a super hero, etc... Really different ideas to get your imagination going. And a fun way to record a certain time in your life. It will be fun for him to read when he is older.

So Fun

I got this for my 4 year old daughter. She is not old enough to read or write yet, so each night at bedtime, I scribe for her and it is such a blast to hear the creative things she has to say! It is such a great way to connect with her. Several of the prompts ask you to draw something, so she does those on her own. This will be a treasured book for years to come.

perfect gift

I actually decided to gift one of these books to children who are suffering from terminal illness. I love how they can express themselves in different ways, and it is something the parents can keep for years to come.
