Featured Park & Playground: Mills River Park

May 30, 2019

This past week as I was running from one place to the next running one errand after another I remembered I needed to return my already late library book.  Thankfully I had remembered to put it in the car.  Instead of going all the way to the main library in downtown Hendersonville I figured I'd stop at the Mills River one, cause you can drop it off at any of the WNC library's (genius).  As I was driving up the road I noticed the park that Clifton had told me about months ago.  This is not the park I had envisioned when he mentioned it to me.  This park looked straight out of a Dr. Suess book. Appropriate being right next to a library.  I didn't have time to stop and check it out as I was already running late to get the car back to Clifton but decided then and there I was taking Sawyer to check it over weekend.

Saturday morning after dropping Clifton off at work Sawyer and I headed to the park.  I was super excited to take him and go on this new adventure together.  As we walked up there was a mom and her two kids heading out and no one else - we had the whole place to ourselves!  I quickly showed Sawyer the stairs, which imitated more of a mountain with various size steps.  Appropriate for where we live.  Once we reached the top we took the slide down.  Sawyer's only 14 months old so he sat in my lap as we went down.  Then we headed over to the swing set where we were able to swing together since the other end had a seat for me!  After that he wandered around the grass because that's what he's interested in mostly these days - non-stop walking.

During our time there playing the gentlemen who maintains the park was checking on the facilities and walking the park.  I stopped to talk to him - I asked how long the park was around (more than 4 years) since it looked brand new.  He informed me of the various facilities and that the'd be adding a canopy to shade the playground.  He also cautioned me about the slides as they were heating up from the sun and didn't want my son to get hurt.   It was a great experience that I wanted to share along with the parks details in case you didn't know or haven't been yet!

Did I mentioned that the park is also right next to the Mills River Library - talk about a park that has it all!  Sawyer and I have gone two more times since our first trip and each time was better than the next!

Tip:  Until they add the canopy I'd go early in the morning or later in the day when it cools down some.

Happy Playing!
