Note From Your Publisher: Boy Mom

June 12, 2019

When I was younger my baby teeth were behind schedule on falling out so I had to have surgery to have 7 teeth pulled all at the same time, which would allow my adult teeth to come in.  I came out of surgery followed by my older sister, who was getting her wisdom teeth pulled that day.  Once she arrived I got up to move from my seat to see how she was but before I reached her I passed out.

That was just the beginning of my fainting spells.

Shortly after I was at a routine doctors visit and had to give a blood sample via a quick prick to the finger.  As I'm standing next to my dad who is in the middle of making a joke about me passing out, I do exactly that.  Fast forward to being 18 and fainting after receiving my first depo shot - scared the nurse half to death!

When I was 30 I passed out after giving blood for the first time and even in the middle of a movie theater watching the movie Lucy.  Last year while giving birth to my son I asked the nurse if anyone had fainted from labor before - I was positive I would be the first one.

I don't know if it's needles or the sight of blood that gets to me, perhaps both.  Regardless, history has shown I don't have a good track record with either.  So I'm not sure who's brilliant idea it was to make me a boy mom!

The first time Sawyer banged his mouth on his crib from bouncing up and down, drawing blood I picked him up and ran through the house yelling to my husband "blood! blood!"  Every single time he falls I automatically assume his tooth has cut through his lip.  Just the other day he was walking around our driveway, tripped and fell and smacked his face on the pavement.  My heart dropped.  Luckily Clifton was there and got to him immediately but the moment he said his nose was bleeding I was freaking out inside.  Luckily it wasn't too bad.

I know this is just the start of this type of thing and I've got to be honest I'm out of my element here.  There's probably a reason for this and I'm going to learn a a few things along the way.  Personally, I just think the Universe has jokes.
