Your Fall Bucket List for Hendersonville (and surrounding area)!

By Dana Hall October 2, 2019

I love fall and although it's taking it's sweet time getting here temperature wise, I'm ready to get to it!  In that mindset I put together a fun fall bucket list for you and your family.  My type A personality loves a good list and this one's not work related so even better!

I went ahead and listed each below as well with links and local ways to to help you cross these items off!

1.  Decorate for fall:  Try this DIY fall bunting to add to your mantle, entry way, kitchen!

2.  Carve a pumpkin:  You don't need me for this one but if you're not up for carving, paint a pumpkin!

3.  Take a hay ride:  There isn't any hay due to allergies but you can take a tractor ride at Sky Top Orchard!

4.  Make a thankfulness list:  Get the whole family to do this and share with each other what you're thankful for!

5.  Jump in a pile of leaves:  Sure, raking leaves is a pain but if there's fun at the end....

6.  Eat a caramel apple:  Most apple orchards have caramel apples as well or you can hit up Kilwins in downtown Hendersonville always has them!  Perhaps have a family night making caramel apples, adding fun toppings like chocolate, broken up pretzels, candy!  You can find instructions on the back of the caramel candy packaging.

7.  Watch a Halloween movie:  Clifton and I have a tradition of watching Halloween movies while carving pumpkins.  Our personal favorite is Hocus Pocus and we added Beetlejuice last year.  Have kids, It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, Casper!

8.  Get lost in a corn maze:  My friend raves about Elida's annual corn-maze, which we are heading to ourselves.  All ticket sales go towards Elida's Kid's.  Can't beat fun and for a good cause!  Prefer to stay close to home, head over to Stepp's Hillcrest for their maze!

9.  Read a book Halloween or Thanksgiving themed:  Head over to your local library to check out a few seasonal books to read together as a family!

10.  Go apple pickin':  Check out this list of local orchards and their apple pickin' schedules!

11.  Take a family photo:  You don't have to be a professional photographer just capture the moment.  You can even enter to win a contest!

12.  Make a pie:  After you go apple pickin' make an apple pie with those babies!

13.  Enjoy some apple cider:  You can knock this out when you go apple pickin' because most, if not all have cider! If you're adventurous, make some at home!

14.  Take a hike:  Dupont State Forest is a personal favorite of mine!  I take anyone who visits us there!

15.  Make a fall craft:  Hands On! Children's Museum has a different craft each week.  This week it's 3D pumpkins, next is a hanging spider.  If you'd rather do something at home, make a scarecrow using old clothes and hay - head over to chimney rock village for their scarecrow contest for inspiration!

16.  Go to a fall festival:  I don't think there is a weekend in this area when we aren't having a festival of sorts.  When you're ready, head over to our events calendar and take your pick!

17.  Add your own tradition:  Would love to hear what your family loves to do in the fall!

18.  Pick a pumpkin:  We always head over to Justus Orchard for our pumpkins, it's a tradition of ours!  This weekend Davis farms is having a pick-a-pumpkin event!

Share any of your fun fall family adventures on Facebook and Instagram using #MacKidHendo so we can check them out and give you some love! We'll be doing the same!
