A Conversation With Your Publisher: A New Year

By Dana Hall January 1, 2020

I love a New Year.  It's like the ultimate Monday of fresh starts!  It's a time to reflect on the past year - lessons learned, goals accomplished, failures, growth - and evaluate how you want to approach the new year ahead.

As 2020 approached I was finding myself bummed out instead of my usual excitement.

I don't feel like I'm in the season of goal setting as I quickly approach giving birth to twins, making me a mom of three!  Don't get me wrong, I don't believe that just because I'm a mom that's it and I can't set goals for myself, it's just that I need to hold off for a minute.

I already have more than I should on my plate (are we surprised) and I know that setting goals for myself will just make me feel even more overwhelmed and stressed out as I'll want to get started.

In addition, last week when we were at my families in Illinois my pregnancy took a turn.  I found myself with very little energy, feet hurt after standing for too long, bloating - so much bloating, harder to move around, nausea and sleeping at night is it's own challenge.  All things I was lucky enough to only experience the last two weeks of my pregnancy with Sawyer, not the beginning of my third trimester.

So I'm going to surprise even myself and embrace that right now my main goal is to take care of myself and bring these babies into the world.  Once that's done, I'll take some time to sit down and set some goals for myself (like a half marathon perhaps or getting a shower every single day).

Right now, I'll take a minute and reflect on the things I did accomplish this past year.

1.  Stepped outside my comfort zone and performed in a live reading

2.  Started running again, getting up to 4 miles in a single run

3.  Became a publisher for Macaroni Kid

4.  Started asking for what I wanted and stopped feeling bad about it

5.  Grew two babies AT THE SAME TIME

6.  Created and started using a budget

7.  Seriously worked towards cutting out debt

8.  Helped produce our first Improv Comedy Festival

9.  Leaned into being a mom

10.  Became significantly more patient

11.  Learned to prioritize

12.  Ran a Spartan Sprint

13.  Performed at the Dallas Comedy Festival

What did you accomplish this past year?

What Season are you in?

Whatever season you are currently in, embrace it and enjoy - Happy New Year!

Always,
